Well, my name is Bryan Ourso (obviously!) and I am a Computer Science student at Sierra College. I am hoping to graduate with an Associate of Science Degree with a Networking concentration in the Spring semester of 2003. I originally graduated from high school in 1994, and after attending Sierra for several semesters, I took some time off. After gaining experience in the real world (and learning how important a college degree can be!), I returned to school to continue my education.
My first computer was the 286 my family purchased back in 1991. I spent one entire summer learning how to use it, and I've been working with computers ever since. Most of my computer experience is with programming languages, such as Pascal, C/C++, and Visual Basic. However, I have a broad range of experience with applications, and I am also experienced with computer hardware, having built my last two computers from scratch.
I am taking this class for several reasons. First, being a programming enthusiast, I am always interested in learning new programming languages. I am especially interested in learning about HTML extensions such as JavaScript, which is enough like C/C++ to make me feel like I can jump right in and start writing code, but different enough that I really wouldn't know what I was doing. Second, I do know many of the basics of HTML, but I wanted to learn about advanced topics such as Cascading Style Sheets and Dynamic HTML. Third, knowing HTML will make my resume look better to prospective employers, especially now that the Internet is such a large part of today's business. And finally, it was three more units that I could take.
